03/14/15 Weaving: Weaving is the process of fabric manufacturing technology. The final product of weaving i.e. cloth or fabric is obtained by interlacing of warp & weft yarns disposed in perpendicular direction. The warp yarns are placed in the longitudinal in woven fabrics & the weft yarns are used for cross wise interlacing with the warp yarns. Moreover, the feed package of weft yarn for weaving, pirn or cone, is made from the single yarn whereas, the warp beam is made from a few thousand warp ends. Therefore, the preparations of the warp and weft yarns for weaving are significantly different and the preparation of warp beam demands more precise and uniform control of tension of all.

Weaving is the interlacing of warp and filling yarns perpendicular to each other. There are practically an endless number of ways of interlacing warp WORSTED AND WOOLEN PREPARATION: [12] These are the processes to produce the worsted and woolen yarns from the wool. Worsted-Spun. As with our woolen-spun yarns, fiber prepared for worsted-spun yarn is first scoured and then carded. This carded wool from the initial fiber preparation is prepared further in a worsted-style through g the jumbled fibers aligns them in a parallel fashion and also removes shorter fibers for uniform length.

Historically, weaving yarns were often, but not always, made from longer, sleek, strong fibers, prepared and spun worsted (see woolen vs. worsted below), and had a firm ply twist. Some manufacturers would leave a bit of the spinning oil in the yarn that was used to protect the fibers during processing.

Worsted wool warps are suitable for any weft-face project including rugs, wall hangings, Navajo weaving designs and tapestry.

Because they are worsted wool they are both supple and very strong. For tapestries choose the 2 or 3-ply warp and set it at ends per inch. Then use Botanica (Item 15), Geo (Item 3) or Deco (Item 2) for the weft.

Typically a 20, m length of warp containing ends is wound onto the first warper’s beam. After this, the warp is cut, the full beam taken out and a new beam put in. 1 Since 2, ends are required on the weaver’s beam, five warper’s beams, each with ends m length of warp, will have to be produced.
